Message 1929 - Posted: 13 Jun 2017, 12:14:13 UTC - in response to Message 1919.

The "NCI" problem is know bug of BOINC Manager, reported few month ago to BOINC developers...
It's NOT our fault...

BOINC Manager recognises only first NCI app from server if CPU app is on it. If you mix them, always when you have combination of 2+1, or 1+2 the problem arrives.
If you like, we will create additional server for you, but THIS IS NO SOLUTION to Manager problem.

Reporting it repeatedly doesn't solve the problem... We waiting for solution from BOINC developers.
If you like, I would send you all details of it, but it is some Gigabytes of data...

1 - It was working fine before under Goofy project name.

2 - There is no CPU app besides a title. So dump it. Seems pretty simple.

3 - Other projects work fine. The problem is still at this project. There are NO EXCUSES to not make it work as an NCI app. None.

4 - ATI GPU selection needs to default to No. Zero people signed up to this project to Mine.

5 - Unless there is a wallet configured there should be no mining WUs sent out. I'm guessing otherwise miners would get nothing? Then it is just profit for yourself.

Stats. Badges. NCI. Fix the damn project. You can't even add a description to the main page before you start monetizing the project. When the project 1st started it didn't even have GCC in the menu bar.

XXX is a research project, based at YYY, that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in XXX.

1 - It was working fine before under Goofy project name.

Goofy project had a global property NCI (whole project)
Now it does not work that way if there are applications besides monkeys with "(NCI)"

2 - There is no CPU app besides a title. So dump it. Seems pretty simple.

CPU application is no longer here
But there were other applications "not NCI" ;o)

4 - ATI GPU selection needs to default to No. Zero people signed up to this project to Mine.

ATI/NVIDIA/Intel GPU - default to "Yes", but "Run test apps" - to "No"

5 - Unless there is a wallet configured there should be no mining WUs sent out. I'm guessing otherwise miners would get nothing? Then it is just profit for yourself.

I would like to be able to work without specifying the address of the wallet.
It can be a choice of campaign as in BU (number zero - in favor of an institution)
Those wishing to work for themselves can directly use the local XMR pool with a percentage for services

Also to think about the use of ASIC miners - they could be freed after closing the BU

Stats. Badges.

Turn on per-application credit (<credit_by_app/> in project config.xml file) & badge script. It's time to finish configuring the server

7. Complete deployment of the plan class "nci" for the monkey_v1 (win_64 app version & WUs)

NCI idea and solution , instead of blaming the boinc dev's for designing their server front end so that you cannot overload it with projects and setting limitations maybe invest more into your project and users. I understand if you guys decided to collaborate together but if that just means sharing server vs the separate servers previously and running a second boinc server on another machine and solution found. You are overpopulating your resources , obviously by trying to run 2 NCI projects on one boinc server front end. If the radiation network NCI app was first and you cant run a second you don't need to RTFM to know the right thing to do , right by admins and right by your users.

PS: boinc has a payment system for processing work units its called Gridcoin. You don't mine it or blocks you get paid for work units.

This would be a waste of great gpu:s for real work.
Accept donation if needed and set focus to what cpu/gpu do better use.

krzyszp i would hope that bring back to work with DrugDiscovery and spend time to support real work. There is great ways to support study for medicine and still do economy to on top off it or donation around it.

BOINC project need users and support, do not set goal to hash/scrypt with users cpu/gpu time.

On the 'NCI problem':
While it was still Goofyx@Home, I used a mono-core Raspberry Pi B+ to run Goofyx (four instances: v1, v2, v3 and v4), WUProp, all six QCN projects and Enigma on the same ARM core.
That's 12 tasks running at the same time on a single core. If the Mexican QCN projects would still have been active, I'd run those two too.

And now they try to sell me that you can only run one NCI project at a time?
Total and utter bollocks!

I really liked goofey.

I don't know the reasons for the change but I expect is was seen as a way to do mining using the unsuspecting volunteers machines.

I removed the app from all my boxes..C Yah

Goofyx no longer works well. At this time, I have no interest in participating in the XMR mine project.

For Nvidia cards is a CLI miner sufficient until a possible future Nvidia app?

YEAH! NCI problem solved and working on everything!
The miner app is reported by my roommates machine as malware and AVG blocks the download.
Since AVG is free ( his is pay ) and even with knowledgeable users this could be a problem if AV quarantines or blocks the file from being downloaded.
https://www.reasoncoresecurity.com/nsgpucnminer.exe-9a6b5fd776dcbdad5143d5fccac2ed6ae247b9bd.aspx shows the info.
I tried supporting this mining via this laptops AMD APU but it errors on computation every time so I wanted to try my roommates r7 2.5gb APU on his A8 7850k since no Nvidia app yet ( oddly most boinc projects its reversed nvidia only ). Coming from Gridcoin and it being my first crypto currency I actually enjoyed setting up the monero wallet and importing the raw block chain 10gb file then having 3 locations for the wallets files install app and files + wallet app data and block chain + user wallet files for a total of 18.2GB space and already running a Gridcoin node growing to that same size that is a bit of space to add for a non scientific project you could run yourself outside of this project yourself vs gridcoin being paid for the work units you do. Ever consider we communicate Gridcoin the GCC and get you whitelisted and your users can opt in or out if they wish to be paid for their work , then come out with an opencl/cuda application for the current goofyxgrid project whereas the payloads of data crunched for the project can be exponential to a cpu work unit thus expanding your projects processing power just as much?

As BU are no any more exists, we have prepared something special for some of you...

Now, you can mine XMR (Monero coins) using ATI cards on our pool, where one percent of mined coins will be sent for servers and infrastructure - rest of it is yours...

What we plan in furure?
1. More coins.
2. More platforms (Linux, CUDA support).
2. Mining for other BOINC projects - if any admin is interested in supporting it's project - just sent PM to me or Goofyx with project wallet address (we will confirm it on his project forum) then we will release app with HIS wallet address and the mined coins will be sent automatically send to his wallet.

Do you have any question? just send question here and we will answer asap (just keep in mind, that it is not easy to do everything as same time).

To mine for your wallet just add your XMR wallet address in your project preferences and enable test apps.

Our Foundation pool address:
Our XMR pool

:)

Will there be work for us to try. I was all excited about giving it a go and got my Wallet but there are no tasks ??

xmr_miner_gpu is set up as test application, so your host won't download it until you set up using test apps in your account preferences.

Don't you think that before you start a test app like XMR, it would be more appropriate to tell us what my machine is crunching at present, I am not a Monkey and have no idea what the project is all about.

Two months ago you advised us that Goofy will be amalgamated with Grid Computing Center. No news been posted since that time about what is the current situation accepting the news about XMR mining app.

Please tell the users what is Grid Computing Center, where is it located and what it does. You stated that Goofy will be a subproject. I do not see any reference to this in the front page. Indeed there is no information at all what we are currently crunching and what the project is all about. There is a template provided by the BOINC software for this, all you have to do is complete it. How long could that take?

I have my preferences set up to get the work by accepting test apps and ticking the box for XMR. The server_status page says there is no work and I have not gotten any work.

Right now we are changing some function in our wraper for xmr_miner, it's why we have to stop wu generator for it.

Can you also post requirements for running XMR work as well as a step by step how-to for those that would prefer not Googling a bunch of different pages trying to figure out the basics?

1. Antiviral software are very often threat minning software as suspicious, we use with wrapper standard NsGpuCNMiner miner downloadable from GIT (you can check checksum if you like).
2. Due to some problems with receiving user wallet address we currently work on fixing validator.
3. About "how to" - is just simple create your wallet (offline, on your machine using Monero software or online - by using web sites with wallets).
4. We are welcome for other admin to supply us their address and support their projects - we are ready to supply application with their wallet address in WU's in 5 minutes (but obviously we will confirm the address on project site).
5. As soon as we properly solve wallet address receiving in wrapper we will also publish app for nVidia cards.

Is one more thing to explain about "NCI problem"
The problem exists when project server have two or more NCI apps AND two or more CPU(or GPU) apps. The problem exists because BOINC Manager sometimes read app property from server and sometimes from application data. I think that nobody before Goofyx make such a project and nobody predict the problem.
We are looking how to solve this but without really deep work in Manager sources this will be probably not possible...

On the NCI problem: you might circumvent the problem by deploying a (virtual) project server per sub-project, and let Goofyx (NCI) be another sub-project than Goofyx (CPU). Both Goofyx sub-projects fall under GCC (and hopefully others too). You could also have a separate mining sub-project, with it's own project server.

Small update:

Problem with receiving user address from project prefs are sorted.
CUDA Windows version test app released.

Known bugs:
1. Validator should finish WU after one our. It close minning app but not close itself properly as should.
2. On some computers few libraries are missing.

I startet testing XMR mining, but all my work units crashed - also at my wingmans computers.
After 13 (buggy) workunits I stopped testing.

GPU is R9 280X - at stock settings, no OC and nothing else.
Any advice?
